Heffler Named On November 24, 2007, Officer Heffler was called to the Sunglass Hut at the Natick Collection for a report of a past larceny. The employee reported that he observed a male and female acting suspiciously near the Dolce Gabana case. When the two parties left the store, the employee noted that two watches and a pair of sunglasses were missing. Officer Heffler updated the officers working the details at the mall and proceeded to search for the suspects. She located them near the escalator on the second floor. Officer Heffler called for backup. It is important to note that this was the weekend after Thanksgiving and the mall was especially crowded with Christmas shoppers. Once backup arrived, Officer Heffler was able to place both suspects under arrest. It was later revealed that the suspects were also in possession of bracelets and a white purse from another store, as well as three pairs of sweat pants from a third store. The Dolce Gabana merchandise was later located in the suspect’s motor vehicle which was parked in the mall parking deck. Officer Heffler displayed excellent policing skills in locating the suspects, while maintaining a clear, conservative judgment which resulted in the successful arrest of two suspects in the middle of a busy, crowded mall. Officer Heffler is hereby recognized, commended and named the Natick Police Department Employee of the Month for November, 2007.
