Ofc. Brett Conaway Named On May 10, while on an assignment outside of regular patrol, Officer Brett Conaway volunteered to respond to a well-being check as other units were busy. A woman who is well known to the department was reported to have threatened suicide to her ex-boyfriend via cell phone. Officer Conaway then met fire department personnel at the address provided and knocked on several doors without receiving any response. Finally, after gaining entrance through a rear window, Officer Conaway located a suicide note on the kitchen table along with two empty bottles of prescription medication. Officer Conaway advised the station of his findings and forcefully entered the second floor apartment in an attempt to locate the victim. Receiving information from other officers, Officer Conaway was led to her place of employment where it was determined that she told her employer she would be late for work. Officer Conaway developed additional information that the victim had been transported by Natick Cab to a local grocery store earlier in the day. He then contacted the victim’s ex-boyfriend, who lived in close proximity to the grocery store. They searched the area but were unable to find her. At some point thereafter, Officer Conaway received information that the missing woman could possibly be located at the end of Cypress Road, near Lake Cochituate. Officer Conaway then located the highly intoxicated woman at that location. He then called for the ambulance that transported her to LMH for treatment.Officer Conaway’s methodical, thorough investigation of the disappearance of this woman led to her discovery and treatment and may have prevented a loss of life. His work in this case reflects credit on himself and the Natick Police Department. Officer Conaway is hereby commended and named the Natick Police Department Employee of the Month for April 2007.
