Officer Jason Sutherland Named
December Employee of the Month

On December 2, 2006, Officers Sutherland and Fitzgerald were assigned a directed patrol on Hartford Street due to the recent breaks in the area.  At approximately 2258 hours, both Officers Sutherland and Fitzgerald were performing surveillance of the surrounding neighborhood when they observed a suspicious male riding a bicycle.  When they questioned the suspect they received inconsistent answers to simple questions such as where he was going.  During their investigation they were able to determine the suspect was lying about his destination.  A board of probation check revealed the suspect had a lengthy history, mostly consisting of breaking and entering.

Another example of Officer Sutherland’s thorough investigative skills was demonstrated on December 26, 2006 when officers were advised in roll call that the Natick Police Department had probable cause to arrest a suspect for breaking and entering into a dwelling that occurred in the town of Natick over the weekend.  The officers were also advised that the suspect could be with his girlfriend, who was wanted by the Metrowest Medical Center for an involuntary commitment under Section 12.  At the conclusion of roll call, Officer Sutherland immediately started checking last known addresses for both individuals.

Officer Sutherland’s determination paid off when he was able to determine that the suspect was staying at the Motel 6 in Framingham and that he had booked the room under the alias of Thomas Butler.  Officer Sutherland, with the assistance of Framingham Police Officers, located and placed the suspect under arrest for breaking and entering.  The suspect’s girlfriend was with the suspect and was transported to the Metrowest Medical Center for evaluation.

For his dedication and determination, Officer Sutherland is hereby commended and named Employee of the Month for December 2006.
