Sergeant Richard Douglas Named
June Employee of the Month

In January, Sergeant Richard Douglas volunteered to serve as the chair of the committee planning our Third Annual Peace Officers Memorial Day Observance. Over the next few months Sergeant Douglas dedicated himself to planning the event and improving on previous ceremonies.  He recruited new participants in the ceremony and planned a well organized and coordinated event.  He successfully solicited the services of Sergeant Daniel Clark of the Massachusetts State Police for musical entertainment and Natick Firefighters Thomas Reynolds and Richard Shearley as bagpipers.  He also coordinated the participation of the on-duty Fire Department personnel in the observance.

The inclusion of Retired Natick Officer George Hanna and Trooper John Hanna, father and brother, respectively, of former Natick resident Trooper George L. Hanna Jr., who was killed in the line of duty, to lay the memorial wreath at the department monument added greatly to the solemnity of the ceremony.

The ceremony was a complete success and as a direct result of the efforts of Sergeant Douglas, numerous compliments have been received from former department members, town officials, and citizens concerning the respect this department shows its departed officers and their families.  The conduct of Sergeant Douglas reflects the highest credit upon himself and the Natick Police Department.

For his leadership and dedication, Sergeant Richard Douglas is hereby commended and named Employee of the Month for June 2003.
