Officer Kevin Delehanty Named
September Employee of the Month

On August 11, 2003 at 11:18 PM Officer Kevin Delehanty responded to a traffic crash in the vicinity of 312 Eliot St in which there may be serious personal injury.

Arriving at the scene Officer Delehanty observed fire rescue personal treating an injured female lying prone across the seat of the vehicle at this point Officer Delehanty conducted an examination of the crash scene to identify any trace evidence that would assist in determining the sequence of events that led to the crash.

Office Delehanty identified physical trace evidence, marking area of impacts and final resting positions and marked these points preserving the location of the evidence so that a follow up investigation could be conducted at a later date if necessary.  Officer Delehanty then conducted the crash investigation including the recording of statements relative to speed from both the operator and injured passenger.

Realizing that the operator’s statements relative to speed did not correlate with the physical trace evidence, Officer Delehanty requested a follow up investigation from the traffic safety unit. Due to proper identification and marking of trace evidence a speed analysis was able to be conducted which showed the minimum speed of the vehicle to be in the 70-73 mph prior to impact.

Aided by the traffic crash reconstruction report, Officer Delehanty was able to issue a citation to the operator for several serious motor vehicle offenses.

For his diligence and attention to duty, Officer Kevin Delehanty is hereby commended and named Employee of the Month for September 2003.
