Sgt Paul Thompson Named
January 2003 Employee of the Month

Historically we have seen a rise in criminal activity and the need for police services in the area of the Natick Mall during the Christmas season. This year Sergeant Paul Thompson, as the assigned area commander, took ownership of this problem and took care to insure that the department provided the most valuable and efficient services it could to the merchants and citizens using the mall area as well as providing the additional security these times required.

Working closely with area officers, Natick Mall manager Jim Elliman, and Security Chief John Litchfield, detailed traffic plans were developed, tested, and implemented. Arrangements were made with the Middlesex County Sheriff’s office to insure all posts would be covered in the event Natick Officers were unavailable.

Sergeant Thompson arranged and conducted crime prevention seminars for the merchants of the mall and supported those efforts with the distribution of crime prevention materials by Natick Police Officers to shoppers in the mall.

Sergeant Thompson’s efforts clearly paid dividends in a marked reduction of traffic congestion during a very busy period.  Continuing emphasis on police presence through directed patrols at the mall resulted in fewer incidents of crime (B+E into motor vehicles, shoplifting, assaults).

Sergeant Thompson’s concerted efforts and his ability to work with others towards a common goal reflect credit on himself, area officers, and the Natick Police Department.

For his excellent police service, Sergeant Paul W. Thompson is hereby commended and named Employee of the Month for January 2003.
