Officer Scott Smith Named
March Employee of the Month
On
Friday
February 22, 2002
,
Officer Scott Smith responded to a reported past Breaking & Entering
on Westlake Rd.
The residents related that on 2 separate
occasions within the previous week, they had discovered large amounts of
cash missing from various locations in their bedroom dressers.
Additionally, it was noted several doses of prescription medications
were missing as well. Using the information gleaned from the victims,
Officer Smith canvassed the neighborhood and was able to develop leads
regarding the possible vehicle involved, time and method of entry and
possible suspect description. Using this information, Officer Smith was
able to focus the investigation on Jennifer MORRIS, a former girlfriend
of the victims' son and a suspected substance abuser. Officer Smith
interviewed MORRIS who denied any involvement, but whose behavior
invited further investigation. In attempting to verify MORRIS' alibi,
Officer Smith instead uncovered more indications of her involvement.
Officer Smith's thorough and exhaustive investigation led to the
charging of Jennifer MORRIS with 2 counts of B&E Daytime, 1 count of
Larceny Under & 1 count of Larceny Over.
For
his excellent police work, Officer Smith is hereby commended and named Employee
of the Month for March 2002
