Det. James Ordway Named
October Employee of the Month
On
August 31, 2002
, the Fleet Bank in the
Roche
Brothers
Plaza
was robbed for the second time
that week. Officers Linton, Vitale and White, Lieutenant Mabardy and
Detective Ordway immediately responded to the scene. Detective Ordway
was assigned as the lead investigator and processed the crime scene,
retrieving photos from bank security personnel and the note used in the
robbery. While processing the note, Detective Ordway was able to develop
a latent fingerprint. The photographs revealed the suspect to be similar
to one who had robbed a bank in
Newton
within the same week. Media
outlets were contacted and Detective Ordway made a presentation on the
robberies during which he displayed the photographs of the suspect.
Correctional officers at MCI Shirley viewing the newscasts that evening
contacted Detective Ordway and identified the suspect as Stephen Cox.
On
Sunday September 1, 2002
, Detective Ordway traveled to
MCI Shirley to obtain better photographs of Cox which were used to
produce flyers that he and Detective John Doherty Jr. distributed to
local innkeepers. Detective Ordway then applied for and obtained an
arrest warrant for Cox.
On
Monday September 2, 2002
, Detective Ordway brought the
latent fingerprints obtained from the robbery note to the State Police
Crime Lab where they confirmed the print to be Cox’. Upon returning to
the Natick Police Department, Detective Ordway was informed a clerk at
the Best Western in
Framingham
had received the flyer and
recognized Cox checking in. Detective Ordway joined Framingham PD in
staking out Cox’ room and eventually assisted in Cox’ apprehension.
For his diligence, and excellent police work,
Detective James Ordway is hereby commended and named Employee
of the Month for October 2002
