August  2002 Employee of the Month

Ofc. Douglas McDonnell

For his excellence in police duty, Officer Douglas McDonnell is hereby commended and named Employee of the Month for August 2002.

At 1336 hours, on July 3, 2002 , Officer Allan Graham responded to the area of the Christmas Tree Shop at Sherwood Plaza relative to a complaint of hubcaps being stolen from parked motors vehicles in front of the store.

Arriving at the scene Officer Graham received information from a witness that two male subjects in their twenties were stealing hubcaps from parked vehicles and that the suspects left the area in a green Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Officer Graham immediately communicated this information to dispatch and all other patrol units.

Officer Douglas McDonnell, also assigned to Area A, on his own, began to check in Natick Mall area for the suspect vehicle. While checking the B deck area he located the vehicle parked without occupants on the third level.

Officer McDonnell notified Lieutenant Grassey that he located the vehicle and kept the vehicle under observation until such time as Lieutenant Grassey and Detective Blanchard arrived at the scene to set up a surveillance of the vehicle.

The occupants returned to the vehicle and left the Natick Mall, followed by Lieutenant Grassey and Detective Blanchard.  Officer McDonnell assisted in stopping the suspect vehicle at the Travel Lodge, the subsequent search and arrest of the two individuals.

Because of Officer McDonnell’s dedication to duty, the suspect vehicle was located leading to the recovery of the stolen hubcaps and the arrest of the individuals responsible.
