June 2002 Employee of the Month

Ofc. Leonard Jennings

For his timely, appropriate, and successful response to this medical emergency, Officer Leonard Jennings is hereby commended and named Employee of the Month for June 2002.

On the morning of May 8, 2002 at approximately 1020 a.m., Officer Lenny Jennings was off duty at Casey's Diner on South Avenue speaking to longtime friend Mr. William "Wiggi" White (former selectman and town employee), who was preparing hamburgers, when Mr. White complained that he was feeling faint. Officer Jennings suggested that he sit down.  As he sat down Mr. White fainted and started to fall forward. Officer Jennings immediately rushed to his aide, broke his fall, and gently lowered Mr. White to the floor.

Mr. White stopped breathing and was now turning blue. Officer Jennings asked Fred Casey to call 911 and began his assessment of Mr. White. It became very clear that he had to start CPR immediately. After performing a series of chest compressions Officer Jennings noticed that Mr. White appeared to be responding.  Shortly, thereafter, Natick Fire Department personnel arrived and were able to detect that Mr. White now had a pulse.  Officer Jennings continued to assist by insuring Fire Department personnel had adequate space to operate and in finally placing Mr. White in the ambulance.

It was later determined that Mr. White had indeed suffered a heart attack and Officer Jennings’ quick actions and immediate utilization of CPR techniques served to minimize the threat posed to Mr. White’s health and well-being.
