Natick and Our Patch

Natick is a suburban community located 14 miles west of Boston along the Charles River. Population is approximately 31,000. It is a residential and business community with some light industry.

The police patch depicts the Preacher John Eliot who came to this area in 1650 to teach the Algonquin Indians religion and the "English way of life." In the scene, he is preaching to several natives.

This is a portion of the town Tercentennial Seal that has since been adapted and incorporated into a colorful shoulder patch that is worn by all members of the department.

The word NATICK is popularly thought to be a derivation of an Indian word that means "a place of hills." During his time preaching, Eliot and the Indians translated the Bible into the native Indian language. These Indians became known as the "Praying Indians of Natick."

Red and blue are the town colors for its high school sports teams. Natick has long been identified with its athletes. It has been known for many years as the "Home of Champions."
