Citation to Accompany the Award

For his consistent excellence in police duty throughout the year, Detective John W. Doherty, Jr. is hereby named the Natick Police Department Officer of the Year.

As the lead investigator in many of the department's recent high-profile cases that have included bank and other armed robberies, civil rights violations, rape, and homicide, Detective Doherty has demonstrated an exceptional level of determination and investigative ability. These investigations required a high level of attention to detail and perseverance to develop a credible case for prosecution. Throughout, Detective Doherty was very much aware of and sensitive to the needs of the victims.

Within the department, Detective Doherty's investigative skill and knowledge have increased the overall effectiveness of the entire investigative division while also serving as a valuable legal and procedural resource for members of the patrol division. Detective Doherty's detailed reports and courtroom demeanor have resulted in recognition from prosecutors and victims alike.

Detective Doherty's dedication to duty, consistent reliability and competency, and wide range of investigative skills reflect credit on himself and the Natick Police Department.

It is my pleasure to formally and publicly commend Detective Doherty and name him the Natick Police Department Officer of the Year for 2006.
