Citation to Accompany the Award

For his consistent excellence in police duty throughout the year 2004, Officer Edward Arena is hereby named the Natick Police Department Officer of the Year for the year 2005.

Officer Edward Arena distinguished himself by providing exceptionally meritorious service to the Natick Police Department from January 1, 2004 to December 31, 2004 . Throughout his career and more specifically during this period, two words that have consistently been used to describe Officer Arena are professional and empathetic. While it is sometimes difficult to combine the two while performing the duties required as a police officer, Officer Arena has shown not only that it can be done, but how it should be done. 

Numerous letters from grateful citizens tell of incidents that Officer Arena has responded to in which his calm and competent demeanor has affected those involved making a traumatic incident less so while at the same time helping victims place the incident in its proper context. Officer Arena’s interpersonal skills are not limited to any particular demographic and his natural rapport with people provides exponential benefits for both the community and the department. 

His strong family values and willing work ethic foster the cooperative working atmosphere that is the desire of any outstanding organization and affect positive change in patrol operations. The distinctive accomplishments of Officer Arena reflect great credit upon himself, his family, and the Natick Police Department.

It is my pleasure to formally and publicly commend Officer Arena and name him the Natick Police Department Officer of the Year for 2005.
