Officer of the Year - 2002

                        Ofc. Arthur Peros

For his consistent excellence in police duty throughout the year 2001, Officer Arthur Peros is hereby named the Natick Police Department Officer of the Year for the year 2002.

After a brief period as a member of the Natick Police Department Reserve, Officer Peros was permanently appointed in August 1974. Throughout his career, Officer Peros has been assigned to duties in the uniformed patrol division, almost exclusively on the busy evening (4-12) shift. He has been recognized many times by various Boards of Selectmen for bravery and meritorious service to this community. Among his citations are two for apprehending armed robbery suspects without incident, largely because he called on his training and good judgment in accomplishing these arrests. He has received numerous letters of appreciation from residents of Natick for his caring and professional demeanor in answering their calls for service.

In 2001, Officer Peros was twice named the department’s Employee of the Month and cited for excellence in police duty on several other occasions. His patrol techniques in the Natick Mall area have resulted in arrests of organized shoplifting groups and the recovery of thousands of dollars in stolen merchandise. It would seem to the uninitiated that Officer Peros’s success results from his being in the right place at the right time. Department members, however, know that Officer Peros places himself in those positions and makes observations that lead him to further investigation that often results in uncovering wrongdoing and arresting perpetrators of crime.

Officer Peros continues to be a positive influence on all with whom he serves, particularly younger officers. He is modest and unassuming, and his actions serve as an example for all of us to follow, exemplifying the ideals expressed in the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics.

It is my pleasure to formally and publicly commend Officer Peros and name him the Natick Police Department Officer of the Year for 2002.
